placing old fashioned mothballs has some deterrent effect, no good in a car I guess, unless in storage as traveling will vent the mothball fumes away At work

That’s odd, Ford had to put a “nasty taste” in the looms of vehicles years ago because in the Bavaria region in particular we were getting issues with Pine Martens chewing the new (soy) looms, so cannot understand why the manufacturer you saw could not do it also, it’s been known for a very long time now. Regards

Back in the 70s we installed miles and miles of cable in rat infested environment and the only ones that survived was brass taped, what that means it has a very thin layer of brass tape just underneath the first layer of PVC. Once the rodents get through the PVC the brass tape nicks and cut the rats mouth and sometime later ... exit one rat.

Steel wire armoured didn’t last five minutes by comparison.


I’ve no idea if it’s still in use today but it was very effective

it was John Deere trouble with a combine harvester is its basically loaded with rat/mice food even after a good clean down, and the rodents have to bite stuff to keep their teeth worn down, cables seem to be the favorite no matter what they taste of At work

That fetched back some memories, my better half used to work for huge medical company and her work colleague from down Essex way took his brand spanking new company BMW over there on a camping trip only for said Pine Martin to eat his wiring loom
