Park assist stopped working?

Twice now I have touched something whilst reversing, without the PDC alert coming on.

First time it was a bush that I heard make contact at the back left corner reversing up my own drive whereas PDC normally shouts at me if I get either end anywhere near the foliage.

Wednesday was more serious as I broke the left rear light of a Mitsubishi L200 pick up which I hit with my own right rear light cluster and broke that too (impact maybe 2 mph?).

I had gone into the parking space on lock and was coming out on the same lock; both my passengers confirmed that the PDC made no sound. OK. it's there to help and no subsititue for observation, etc. etc. so the cost of rear lights in down to me but it ain't supposed to happen with park assist.

* Was the L200 back end "target" too high for the sensor? (it is quite high and a good overhang from the rear wheel)
* Has anybody else had this happen?

The confirmatory PDC beep when engaging reverse does not always sound for me although the PDC has sounded even when the confirmation beep has not - so that's not a certain clue to it working or not.

I've tested it now several times and it seems to work perfectly - I intend to find a way to present an obstruction 2 ft off the ground coming at the corner. I'll raise this with my dealer at service but as I cannot yet recreate the fault, I am going to seem a bit silly and they'll think I'm looking to pass the buck.

Are these sensors integrated in the sound system or is it a seperate system?

I'm still pondering on which system to replace the factory audio system, but do not want to loose the parking sensors in the process.

If they are linked to the audiosystem I have probably no choise then the Kenwood KOS-V1000 or KOS-V500 taht integrate the exiszting audio system. Building on that would mean a costly, complex but nice looking system. Teh only drawback is that the factory system becomes an audio source to the system and I fear a complex gui.

If they are not linked to the audiosystem I can go for a complete 2-din system which is easier to built and much cheaper too as they already hold all the features I want. It's not so clean looking but I can think of a solution to rectify this. You get a small colour difference between the system surround and the dash which does not look bad. I have more of an issue of the wide flat open spaces on either side of the unit, which I'm thinking of breaking with usb connectors and stuff (bringing the back connectors of the unit to the front) and possibly extending on them with a card reader.

Personally I think the second solution is currently my favourite but still not 100% decided...

Here's a photo of what I mean:

though I'd rather choose this http://www.kenwood.be/nl/products/car/mult...DNX5240BT/ as you can colour-coordinate it with the dash and ou have easier access (buttons) to the main functions.
The screen is more then big enough I believe.

I have had the chance to use both styles of system, the kenwood KOS V1000 and a replacement system for the factory cd player. The kenwood did still let me use the parking sensors all i had to do was tap the factory icon on the screen.

I'm actually selling my kenwood system as a mate got me a pioneer full system but this wasn't compatible with the kenwood unit. http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic3337.html

Your first option (the kenwood) is best if you want to remove the system from your car easily and quickly as it can simply be unplugged and taken out without having to remove the dash.

hope this helps

Beware
- your Pioneer system will NOT work with your parking sensors. There is no interface available from Pioneer directly so unless you know someone who has developed a solution you will lose your sensors.
