Gearbox Oil Leak - auto and manual!!

My Dad's manual sufferred from a leaking gearbox and this was resolved by LR by fitting a new gasket where the gearbox mounts. Problem solved.

I thought I'd check my auto to see if it was leaking oil also and it is. I took off the guard under the engine and there is noticable oil staining at the same point. this was checked out by the dealers and they are going to have to take the box of and put a new gasket on it.

Might be worth any one who's not checked there gearbox to have a look before the warranty runs out or it could be big bucks. Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

I believe this is known problem, and is a standard (extra) check at the 1st service.

It was at mine - and they fixed it Thumbs Up

I'm not even convinced they checked anything on mine at the first service as the bottom engine cover bolts had rusted into place. They nearly sheered when I tried to remove it. It was stamped as 'Land Rover De-fleeting Centre' in the service book. I reckon they lifted the bonnet to check if the engine was there, washed it badly and then sold it!! Twisted Evil My local dealers seem to be very good, albeit, they charge a lot for it! Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Are there any other standard extra checks these cars should've had?? Mine even seemed to miss the recall for the auxillary heater Shocked Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

I think in todays modern dealers they dont remove the belly plate its a oil vacum down the dipstick hole and suck out the oil from the sump it happened on my f/l 1 the belly plate bolts were rusted in place on the f/l 2 I removed it to do some minor adjustments after a argument with a tree stumpso I put some copperslip on the bolts so if I need to remove it it will be quite easy in the future 07my Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Baltic Blue,Privacy Glass,Ebony black leather,Land rover detachable towbar,S/S Side bars,Climair wind deflectors,Bramble Rash,
