United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Rimini Red

Hi All, just to say that over the last two months that I have had MY2013 HSE Lux Sd4, on a long trip up to 100 miles, I am recording an average of 42 miles to the gallon. on a shorter motorway trip I am still getting 36-38 mpg, this compares quite favorable with my previous Freelander 1, which would always average around 40 mpg on a long trip.

The first month that I had my Sd4, I was only getting 35 to 37 mpg, I checked my air pressure which was reading 31 psi all round. I increased the pressure to 35 psi all round and started to get a much better reading.

I have been thinking about getting my engine hydrogen cleaned, the adds say that you can expect up to 14% better fuel consumption after such a cleaning. has anyone one on the forum had any experience with having their engine cleaned with this method and if so what if any improvement have they seen?

The best I've had full tank to full tank including 500kg payload with a lot on the roof to add to wind resistance & air conditioning on was 33.2 mpg, petrol.

I have got every petrol receipt & put into a spreadsheet. The car computer data wonders around a bit so it is far better to measure tank to tank.

Headwinds & tailwinds effect fuel consumption a lot. On the Eyre highway across Australia at 95kph consumption varies from 7.8 to 12 litres per 100km simply due to headwinds. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Why is it when for donkeys years we have been buying fuel meaured in litres that the fuel consumption figures are given in miles per gallon. Don't land Rover know that we stopped using gallons years ago? Surely the fuel computer should give consumption in miles per 10 litres, then we wouldn't have to mess about converting the gallons to litres. Get up to date Land Rover and ditch this outdated measure that we no longer trade in.

It's a bit of a dog's breakfast everywhere.

I think I am too old to switch, KM per Litres - or miles per litres - make no sense to me.
MPG is for me - perhaps the younger generation can embrace a new measure.

"what is this litre you speak of?"

It's something us young, with it people know of. It's a mysterious thing that makes life simpler that has been kept secret from the oldies for fear that if they know about it the world will come to an end and we will all be forced to travel by electric buses with or without our beloved bus passes.

I still find when building/diy it is far easier to measure in inches than metric.....I can easily remember 73” rather than 1854mm, who measures in thousands of silly little bits? Rolling with laughter

But if it’s simple for the youngsters.... Whistle

See I remember going metric when we were at school
So below 1" (25mm) I work in inches - or thousands of an inch. Above 1/2 a mile I'm back in miles
Below a pint I work in CC - a measure that REALLY upsets the youngsters at work, apparently they work in millilitres.

Gets really confusing when working with the Americans, gets really really confusing when working with the Canadians.
The Canadians are supposed to be working in metric, but insist on working in imperial as they import an awful lot from their southern neighbours.

If it's fun for me think how much fun it is with the younger Engineers. I was asked the other day "why do they (USA) use taper threads (NPT)" had to explain that when the threads were standardised PTFE tape hadn't been invented and that it was the only way to guarantee a proper seal.

Not going to mention countries that insist on selling beer in fluid ounces rather than proper pints. Very Happy Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

It gets worse if you mistakenly use American gallons instead of the now defunct British gallon as their gallon is smaller than the Imperial gallon. Mind you, you could use it as a bargaining point when buying a used car - "It only does how many to the gallon!" - but forgetting to mention you are using American gallons.

I have drill bits from 6mm down in 0.1mm increments.

Tapping holes for threads it is important & it is easier to have the right diameter.

Even if it is a hole for a bolt it really needs to be the correct diameter so it does not work loose. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
