After about 40 years in the motor trade I thought it was a right to get out when I did my first one. Then I listened to those on here and bought a 27mm swivel head ratchet spanner. Easy Peasey! Try it Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

So with the ratchet spanner do you go in from above or below? |

Below. Snap the ratchet end onto the plastic filter housing (there’s a couple of spring tangs on the nut that will hold it on), angle the spanner and undo. Really, really easy. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I would swop it for the most expensive range rover, I would then sell that and buy another freelander i6. Common sense isn't very common.

I have to agree with GlynnB, I do the filter from the top every time using the flex head ratchet spanner, it is a piece of cake & no cruddy oil running down your arm either. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

If you go from above do you have to remove anything to get access? Looks amazingly tight! |

snappa I've never removed anything to get the filter out from above but others do remove the fan assy for more access. I guess a lot will depend on the size of your hands/arms. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Did mine from the top also. Didn't need to disconnect anything.
