Replacement key/ key insurance

Hi People,
Hope you're all well?
My wife managed to put one of my FL2 keys in the rubbish bin today. It was retrieved but this made me think of how would i replace a lost key should this happen and the rubbish got taken away.

Does anyone have any knowledge of how to get a key cheaply?

Options:
1. LR Replacement key and blade for approx £140+VAT plus £40+ for programming the new key
2. Purchase key insurance - does anyone have experience of these companies that offer it indecent of normal car insurance
3. or could i get a key from a breakers yard and have LR re-programme it?

Help as always is appreciated,

Chris

Do you not have it included on your house insurance? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Keys are once only programmable.
So don't buy one from a scrapyard, and be VERY wary of buying one off eBay Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Cheers people,
I've called my car insurance and they've added it for £5.99 for the year.
Bargain,
Chris

Most people probably don't have "lost credit card" insurance any more after they were accused of mis-selling, but if you do it probably covers keys as well. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

i have had it once on my car insurance, cost something like £20 extra, which was luckly as i 'lost' a key that year, and another stroke of luck it was a dodgy key that didn't work all the time due to the buttons been duff

Thought, never lost a key in my life, I've 'lost' one, and doubt it would happen again, especially as i changed cars, and on a new car you get newer keys, so cancelled it off at renewal Wink Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

silly question but do most car insurances come with lost key cover or is that nearly always a optional extra? MY2014 HSE Santorini Black

Hi, thanks for replying, do you mean I can just buy key cover as a one off, or it would be part of my insurance if I went with them? MY2014 HSE Santorini Black
