My first LR! 2010 SD4 HSE

Hey all! Finally bit the bullet and got my self a freelander 2. The last few years my 30 mile B Road commute has been horrendous in the winter with FWD so here we are!

I looked at a few options and was torn between an 07 TD4 with 70k in lovely condition but a 3yr/30k gap in servicing history, or the one I went for, 2010 (facelift) SD4 with 117k and one owner with full LR service history. In excellent condition.

I was after blue or red but finding those colours is a pain. Settle for gangster black!

I'm an ex mechanic and have no problems at all buying high mileage motors if they're right but I've never touched a freelander in my life. I was hoping for some advice on what sort of preventative things I should be looking to do at this mileage.

It looks like timing belt is 150k/10yrs but some sources say shorter for facelift?
Can't find a record of it being done so I'm tempted to do the belt, water pump and pulleys sooner rather than later. I'll get a quote but I'd usually do it myself unless you need to dismantle half the vehicle, anyone have experience with the timing belt?

Any other components etc that get a bit unsure approaching 150k?

I'll try and get some more pics up later!

Was going to book in my SD4 2012 for a cambelt change at 93,000 with specialists LDR Bagshot. The guy asked if it was high mileage as he reckons it's 150k before changing. I said I'd heard through this forum that it was reduced to 100k / 7 years. He said "I've been doing LRs for 25 yrs, first I've heard of it!"

Hi,
understand originally it was 10Y or 150k which ever came first
then LR changed this for the SD4 not sure about the facelift TD4 believe its the same?
and it is now 7Y or 112k which ever comes up first

surprised that "specialist" Whistle has never heard it as its common knowledge,
have just checked LR on-line service request and 112k/84M service lists the camshaft timing kit and its £962 Shocked Censored

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try and get in touch with the LR garages last in the book and see if they have any record of it being done.

£900 eesh... I remember flinching at a £500 quote for an Impreza, not sure it could be much longer than that belt change.

I'll do some investigating on what's involved and see if it's doable at home. I plan on keeping it until the day either of us die so I'm not worried about resailability.

Hi guys

I work in aftermarket parts, and was told by Gates that that the service interval was 70k or 10 years was also told that Land rover had recently reduced theirs to this.

Has i didnt fancy the cost of a timing belt and water pump change straight buying my 2014 HSE I ask the salesman at Guy Salmon for written confirmation of service intervals, I have this at home and it states the service interval for the timing belt is 150k or 10 whichever the sooner.

Hi,
try putting your reg number into landrovers on-line service request and think there will be a good chance it comes up as due

and

Shakey if you bought yours from GS I would be having a word with them as the approved scheme says it should be serviced up to date so if its due they should be doing it

Thumbs Up

Easy enough to do at home, the only 'special tools' you'll need are the 2 timing pins (bolts/drill bits can be substituted) & the flywheel locking tool (reqired to undo/torque crank pulley bolt). (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22
Superchips Bluefin Flash
Nanocom Evo II (also sold)

Late response but I also thought it was common knowledge that facelift was 113k / 7rs

As suggested above I put my reg into the LR online service thing and it came up with this:

150,000Mls/120 Months Service £1,795.03 Laughing
Bolt - hex.head
O-ring
O-ring
V-belt
Filter - oil - element and seal
Filter - fuel
Washer - drain plug
Gasket - drain plug - oil
Filter - air cleaner
Gasket - drain plug - oil
Trigger wheel - camshaft timing
Kit - timing belt
Filter - pollen
Screen wash
Fluid - cooling system
Shell helix
Ep80w-90
Oil - transmission
Oil - transmission

Model
Freelander 2

Fuel
Diesel

Engine Size
2.2 CR DI 16v

Transmission
6 Speed Automatic

Model Year
2011

So it's also confirming MY2011

I'm gonna leave it at that and wait for 150k!

Not sure where you are in Kent, but I've been using RCV an Indie in East Peckham since I bought mine two years ago as embarrassed to admit I know little about how it gets down the road, apart from putting in diesel and oil Wink I'm about 35 miles from them, but found it worth the trip
