I find it a bit odd that the concrete coating has been washed away, it indicates that the water got under it at or near the top and possibly entered on the dam side, a maintenance issue? my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

More to do with the amount of water that flowed over the top after the storm |

They'll need to do a permanent fix. Building a new dam in front of the old one would be the best option.

Spooky stuff but the night before I was watching Massive Engineering Mistakes on TV and there was the same scenario in USA which was caused by the force of water getting under spillway slabs as the grouting between the slabs was not maintained and was missing in parts!!

SWMBO reported that when her colleague locked up and went home, she suddenly realised she had forgotten Ron the guinea pig. With the assistance of animal rescue teams operating in the area, Ron has been saved.

My son once had a holiday job at a nearby hotel where they had a Spanish "Manuel" type person. He found him in a panic one day with a 1 litre ice cream container baling water out of the swimming pool and throwing it into the nearby bushes. When asked why? he responded that he had overfilled the pool by about a foot and wanted to get the level down before the manager noticed. "Er, have you any idea how many litres you might need to shift?" was my son's reply. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

He must have been a VERY Manuel character, why did he not just use the back wash valve? Regards

The last time that I used a back wash valve was after I spent a week working in Bombay 11 GS Bali Blue

Thankfully we never had to use the back wash for that kind of incident....

It must be sheer hell to be in a situation like that JulesK. I once had a job where we cleaned up flood damage on behalf of an insurance company. Not a nice thing to deal with going through personal belongings and totally devastating in some cases we went to. However it never ceases to amaze me , the utter dingbats who appear on TV news who knowingly live on a flood plain ,stood in their front room wearing wellys ,while the armchair goes floating by, crying because they've lost their wedding photo album, passports, family portraits, important documents etc. All items that any sane person living in the same area would keep upstairs. "We were woken at 7am as it was running down the road, it was up to my ankles at 9am, but by 5pm it was waste deep." and you didn't think to take 5 minutes to put those items upstairs ?? "This is the third time it's happened in x amount of years." and they still haven't learned Unless, of course, it's for "insurance purposes". |

A fireman once told me that in a house fire, and once the people are out, they are supposed to grab any personal looking photos or documents which are easily removable as everything else is usually replaceable. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
