I only washed my car a few days ago but yesterday some birds seriously dive bombed it so I thought a quick drive over to the Shell garage jet wash bays would be useful just to blast it all off.

When mine gets embarrassingly dirty I get the power wash out, a bit of snow foam, soak and rinse......if it’s not clean by then I go and have a cup of tea until the next time it’s looks so bad Regards

I watched the guy next door wash his few years old qashqai. It’s a dark brownish thing , it was a hot day yesterday with full sun . I put my house on it he would use fairy liquid. No rinsing the car to start with then went on to wash the whole car . It dried virtually instantly, so basically he just moved the dirt around. Once he was done he then got buckets of water to throw over it.

I remember someone once suggesting over on the Disco3 site that to stop door prangs in car parks, he never washed his D3, but left the muck to accumulate. The theory was no-one would want to park next to a car that looked like it has just driven out of a pigsty. I wonder if it worked. The guy who valets my cars is always putting up images of damage done by the Eastern European staffed hand washes that he's had to repair. Scratches and swirls everywhere. Wouldn't go near one personally. They also use chemicals that are bad for your paint work but make their job easier. Same stuff we used to use when I worked at a hire company. You've seen ex-hire company vehicles right? They're the ones that always have the peeling lacquer. |

I tried my local East European car wash a couple of times. They missed bits, and completely missed under the wheel arches, used dubious chemicals, didn't dry off properly just wiped it over with a dirty cloth which left bits caught on the wipers. It's goodbye East European washes and back to the good old fashioned DIY wash.

Since our cars are partly Ford, well I have a very nice Ford Ecoboost engine. Maybe Stuartc could give us the heads up on this mod for the Freelander!

My brother and nephews got stuck in one recently when the rollers stopped across the doors. Apparently one nephew asked if they were going to die. Eventually they managed to ring the garage and an apologetic staff member released them and plied the boys with sweets to make up for the emotional scarring. |

Get white cars, they don't need cleaning, this photo is after 10 weeks around Australia, including 2000km of dirt roads, but we did clean the car with onboard air as there is no water in the outback!
