Another MOT pass.

Took my l6 for it's MOT today. Passed again with no advisories. MOT tester commented on how good the vehicle was , especially considering it's age and mileage. The rust underneath that I mentioned in a previous post was nowhere near as severe as I had imagined, being very light surface rust where bits of paint had flaked off in places. Even the exhaust that I said looked like it came off the wreck of the Mary Rose didn't look that bad either. I guess looking at it up on a lift on a dry day as opposed to lying on the ground on a wet day makes a real difference.
The new suspension I had fitted earlier in the year and the Haldex service (A BIG thanks to Austen at Bell Engineering) due to a weeping pump both helped with the MOT pass, oh and replacing the entire rear brakes, discs, pads, shoes and cables because the cable sheaths were corroded. Without doing these jobs, I'm convinced the Freelander would have failed.
So I think the moral of the story is, if you think it needs doing , then do it. If it fails the MOT on something that you think possibly needs doing, you've still got to do it anyway, but with an MOT failure logged on the DVLA website.

The handbrake cables needing doing even though the rear brakes themselves were still really good. It made sense to me to replace all of the system rather than refitting used brakes , as they'd only need replacing when the time came, meaning doing the job twice.

Glad to hear it. Took mine for its first MOT during my ownership last month. The only faults that came up were of my own doing, such as a headlight bulb the wrong way up and a sticking horn which I should've fixed ages ago.

The FL2 seems to be a really reliable car; far more so than the two Ford Focus I owned beforehand. I checked their MOT history recently out of curiousity and one seems to have fallen to pieces since I sold it. Doubt the same would happen to a FL2.

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Same here - our trusty old 2011 HSE just passed its MOT last week without any problems. I had the car for 6 years now and are pleasantly surprised by its solid reliability. Glad I did not go for an extended warranty.
Considering that the car is being abused as a local run around, it has been very good. A couple of issues such as a broken tail lock, a leaking driveshaft seal, two front stabilisers and brake caliper. The cost of which was far less than a third party warranty. Some might say that's a lot, but I think above is fair for the mileage and age of the car. A bit rusty underneath, but looks like new from the outside and inside - very pleased.

I'm an MOT tester and I don't use that but many testers do as a CYA statement but it's unnecessary as you simply aren't allowed to unbolt/remove anything on a test so if something should go wrong behind those panels (brake pipes/steering joints etc.) you will not be held at fault as you can only test what you can see. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

MOT passed today with no advisories.

5 year service done (actual 40k miles) at Guy Salmon Bristol.

Very pleasant experience, with 68 DS loan car. the engine/gearbox combination is smoother than my FL2, but I still do not like the DS driving position (it is to ordinary - car like). In my FL2 I feel a lot higher with better visibility all round.
On the relatively few miles I did (about 50) I think that it achieved at least 10-20% better fuel consumption.

Two hiccups,

Guy Salmon are questioning their 'Free MOT for Life' supplied originally with car. (I have had to supply additional evidence once I got home)

and although the coffee was plentiful, in proper cup and saucers, the 'posh' biscuits are now missing.

I asked about seeing the new updated DS, I was told demonstrators are due in next 2 to 3 weeks, although they would take my money on order now.

I think they may have to wait much longer for me to part with any money on a new car yet. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
