but not really - telling a few men with a red flags that they were now unemployed was a lot easier than it will be sorting out the EV charging needs of the country. Jules |

No way could I contemplate a fishing trip to the river Thurso - 650 miles door to door and then in the wilds of Caithness. As has been said - until they can guarantee c 300 mile per charge and rapid charging points everywhere (by that I mean less than 1/2hour) it will only be popular with short haul commuters and inner city motorists.

thing is Tenet, you have hit the nail on the head by saying ''only be popular with short haul commuters and inner city motorists.''

Not much hope with Dyson, bought a V8, battery died just after the warranty period of 2 years, had less than 20 mins on full power, the importer out here wants a fortune for a new battery with only a 2 year life span, Dyson not interested despite it being a UK bought unit.

Before I retired, My company purchased 3 Transit vans converted to full EV by Smiths electric vehicles. 2 panel vans for breakdown duties and a flatbed for the stores deliveries.

Whilst there is no doubt going full EV will have huge health benefits for city dwellers the global benefits are less certain to my mind:

Sums it up very well, once the majority are catered for, then "the rest" will end up inconvenienced as "dirty" ICE vehicles will get forced off the road - taxed, legislated, or by dwindling fuel station availability. Would you wantthe cost of installing or maintaining underground fuel tanks and fuel dispensing pumps for a rapidly diminishing market? Tried to get lead replacement petrol lately? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner |

Plug-in hybrids seem to be the most popular and affordable - Just try and buy a Golf GTE...

PHEV are the most popular (or sold) mainly because of the company car tax advantages and they are cheaper due to having a MUCH smaller battery than a full EV alternative. Regards

I know, let's all buy electric cars then pollution will drop as we will all be stuck in house waiting for the charging van, meanwhile in the real world most countries are still spewing out millions of tons of .

I'd heard it was popular as there were very generous discounts being offered for buying them. No one gave a toss about their 'saving the planet' credibility, it was all down to saving the wallet. |
