'BossBob' and 'Pedro' answered 2 questions yesterday but I still would like to know if anyone else has this problem.
I have a 2008 td4 HST freelander Automatic with 106k. Do I need to change the timing belt and chain ?
and the most important question ...... The engine occasionally cuts out whilst driving and give's the message (not an engine warning light) telling me that I have 'reduced engine power'. 'Pedro' suggests it might be a 'camshaft sensor' (which he had changed and it worked for him - I thanked him for the information) but after some research I found it might be the 'fuel pump' .... any ideas, I'm currently only getting about 24.4 mpg. Prior to having a new transfer box installed I was getting around 26/7 mpg, so somethings wrong, what should I be getting ?

regarding the MPG - what sort of driving are you doing ?

If it is short trips around town with lots of stop starts then this is probably about right, if you are doing long distances up and down the motorway then it is not right. MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black Gone

If it hasn't already been done, it needs a 10 year service. This will include timing belt, water pump, all idler pulleys, all fluids, inc Haldex & filter etc. The chain connecting the camshafts is not a service item but might be worth changing if you are at all concerned about it.
For the price of a new crankshaft sensor, it is worth changing just to prove if it is faulty or not.
MPG will totally depend on how you drive, if you are heavy with your right foot it will certainly return the figures you have quoted.
Has your mechanic checked for fault codes? I would expect a fuel pump issue to raise a fault code, crankshaft sensor only if your lucky.
Also worth getting a remap to improve the driveabilty & it can help with MPG

Like most on here while the Freelander 2 is a good vehicle it requires regular maintenance. I’ve a 2008 HDE with just about 90 k miles.

I’ve owned and ended it for over 3 years but my MPG has been 26ish and best about 38 on a very long motorway run using cruise control. As most of my runs are rural if I get 30 mpg + I’d be happy!

I’ve done lots of work ——
New discs and pads all around
New handbrake cables
Software upgrades !
Regular full filters and oil service every 6k
Helix fluids changed
ABS sensors all replaced
That’s the normal for a vehicle of that miles and age and part of ownership of a Landrover
