regarding the MPG - what sort of driving are you doing ?

If it hasn't already been done, it needs a 10 year service. This will include timing belt, water pump, all idler pulleys, all fluids, inc Haldex & filter etc. The chain connecting the camshafts is not a service item but might be worth changing if you are at all concerned about it.

Many thanks for the info, I'm not at all heavy with my foot, I drive it sensibly .... like there's an egg underneath my foot, my mechanic has not yet checked the fault codes. what you say makes a lot of sense but it sounds very expensive - due to bad health I have to have my mechanic do everything. Apart from having back wheel bearing, brake pads, mot, and recon transfer box in the last 3 months, I've also had all the oils changed and a new filter for the engine and now I'm running out of money. Like most on here while the Freelander 2 is a good vehicle it requires regular maintenance. I’ve a 2008 HDE with just about 90 k miles.
