I'm looking to get a set of snow chains which use a central adapter that fits over one of the wheel nuts. They state that they come with a couple of different fitments for 19mm and 21mm nuts and other sizes are also available.

May I suggest original brand Snowsocks? Far superior to chains IMHO. Derek Hill

They're for snowboarding trips down to the French Alps - you're not allowed up the mountains unless you have chains on board. instant fine if you're caught without them. And snowsocks dont count as chains. Thanks for your input though |

The original Snow Socks made by Autosocks are approved for use in France in lieu of chains.

Lots or people are unaware that Snowsocks are in fact fine for use in France. Have a set in the car over winter but still unused.

yep 21 mm just checked, I use spikes spider snow chains, very easy to put on and take off and work well on the inches thick ice that forms on roads in ski resorts ,(which make snow tyres struggle for steering and braking inputs) such as Tignes, at 2100 m thaws are few and far between! Deep snow even when compacted is a doddle even without chains, unless on a steepish hairpin and as chains can be compulsory in the Gendarmes say so, you have to have them if you want to get to your resort! Its also a real pian in the A**E when people try to get up to resort without them and then get stuck across the road when they lose traction..and cause traffic chaos through their complacency! edit photos |

Yes, we do seem to always have "weather" on our trips, January has been very snowy for us most years, which is fantastic if on a ski holiday!
