Wheel nut sizes and snow chains

I'm looking to get a set of snow chains which use a central adapter that fits over one of the wheel nuts. They state that they come with a couple of different fitments for 19mm and 21mm nuts and other sizes are also available.

(Sizes F41 and F51 include adapters for 19mm and 21mm fitments. 17, 19, 21 and 22mm adapters are also available upon request.)

i understand the thread size is an M number and seems standard but does anyone know which adapter i am likely to need for my FL2 2007 running 235/60 R18 wheels/tyres please? I dont understand where to measure the mm size.......

its these snow chains....

Thanks in advance Smile

Why do you think you need snowchains? Have you driven in snow and used the special settings?
I live in far NE and the Fl2 copes very well with M&S tyres No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

May I suggest original brand Snowsocks? Far superior to chains IMHO. Derek Hill

They're for snowboarding trips down to the French Alps - you're not allowed up the mountains unless you have chains on board. instant fine if you're caught without them. And snowsocks dont count as chains. Thanks for your input though Smile

The original Snow Socks made by Autosocks are approved for use in France in lieu of chains.

www.autosock.co.uk/faqs/#q12

You will need to download a sticker and probably a translation of the approval to show to the Gendarmes.

Off the top of my head I believe thy are 21mm.

Metric and AF nuts are measured across the flats.

Lots or people are unaware that Snowsocks are in fact fine for use in France. Have a set in the car over winter but still unused.
Fitting chains can be such a problem socks so much easier.

yep 21 mm just checked, I use spikes spider snow chains, very easy to put on and take off and work well on the inches thick ice that forms on roads in ski resorts ,(which make snow tyres struggle for steering and braking inputs) such as Tignes, at 2100 m thaws are few and far between!
Deep snow even when compacted is a doddle even without chains, unless on a steepish hairpin and as chains can be compulsory in the Gendarmes say so, you have to have them if you want to get to your resort!

Its also a real pian in the A**E when people try to get up to resort without them and then get stuck across the road when they lose traction..and cause traffic chaos through their complacency!

Yes, we do seem to always have "weather" on our trips, January has been very snowy for us most years, which is fantastic if on a ski holiday!
One year we exited the Chunnel and as we drove up the ramp from the train the wingmirrors froze over! We drove through southern half of france where the autoroute was white, and the FL2 just sailed along no problem, where the French had instigated a sort of Truck parking zone with trucks parked for miles from Bourg en Bresse to Chambery as the autoroute was "impassable"... we got waved through!

it is not recomended to park on the street as the recovery can be somewhat difficult
before the spring thaw
