Warranty Direct Quote

Was reading on here someone considering buying an extended warranty and it got me thinking. I've had 2 LR Extended warranties and made the most of them. Both worked out to save me a chunk of money.

Haven't had one for over a year now so wondered what the going rate was.

Got a quote from Warranty Direct, with everything other than the multimedia cover. 0% parts contribution, uncapped labour rates and a £250 excess. Came out at £850 for the year.

I'm surprised, and tempted. What are your experiences of Warranty Direct? If they are reasonable I may take the plunge. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

I had warranty from them and made couple of claims for wheel bearings and rear diff replacement from Bell.

They did make deduction for wear and tear, but payment covered significant portion of costs.

I found them quite reasonable to deal with.

I didn't continue with it as cost vs return was starting to seem excessively in their favour. Andy

Extended warranty (LR) on my DS is £820, including LR Assist, which is a major benefit on the DS, which tends to throw up warning lights from time to time. LR Assist is better at diagnosing and quicker to get them fixed!
£850 seems a lot, but maybe it costs more for an older car? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I actually thought it was good deal Smile my car is 8 years old so thatll be why it is what it is.

I also selected all the extra cover like exhaust system, braking, DPF replacement etc. That upped the price. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I had a bad experience with them on a 39 month / 50,000 mile old MINI. They refused to pay out for a £300.00 wheel bearing failure, on the grounds that it was “wear an tear”, despite the policy being heavily sold on the basis that it included wear and tear cover from Day 1. It took weeks of argument to get them to concede and that was only for a very small claim Evil or Very Mad

It seems to be the warranty provider of choice on LR forums, with many good write ups, but I will be reluctant to use them again when my current LR turns 3 years old.

Strangely the policy specifically says wheel bearings and hubs are covered. Wonder if that's only if they fail rather than wear out... FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Yeah I've tried the LR one and it stops giving you quotes after the car is a certain age. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

It's theoretically available up to 10 years. However I suppose they may not take on new business when the car is over a certain age, or if the OSH shows it has not been maintained by a LR dealer. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

We haven't had good experience with Warranty Direct. My son had a problem with one of the front radiators on his Porsche 911, it was clear that the fan wasn't working (you could see it) but we had to pay for the front of the car to come off and then wait for a few days for an inspector to come and visit and agree that the fan had failed. They paid for the fan but we then had an argument about paying for the dismantling work and the insurance excess. We had another issue with a pop up headlamp washer on another Porsche (which are a legal requirement if you have Xenons) but they wouldn't pay up saying that they were not electric (they pop up under pressure from the electric pump!) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The premium is vehicle age related. You'll have this year at £790 and then next year it will increase to the £950 I pay on my 7 year old Freelander.

It's a lot of money for peace of mind, and I agonised over it for a few days, but decided to continue as I can't find anything I like better than the Freelander I already have. The cam belt has recently been changed and brake discs, pads, and hoses and all main dealer servicing is up to date so, with the extended warranty I can happily keep it for another couple of years.

I have no doubt when the 10 years comes and the warranty is no longer available I'll look back and ask myself if it was worth spending all that money on the extended warranty (unused so far), but that's the nature of insurance .... sometimes it's worth the money just to know it's there?

The other point that makes me feel better about paying out over £2,000 this year for the extended warranty, cambelt, main dealer servicing, new brakes, etc., is that it keeps the vehicle in tip top condition for a few more years and it’s a small fraction of what the eye watering 1st year depreciation would be for a private buyer on something like a Discovery Sport!

Compared to new vehicle depreciation, the costs of maintaining a known and trusted older vehicle fade away.

Yes, good discounts are to be had on new car purchases, and PCP deals keep the showrooms busy, but depreciation on diesels together with concerns about oil dilution, and the pace of change in the auto industry towards electrification, make me think this is a good time to hold onto and look after a vehicle I’m perfectly happy with?

I had a quote from them and because I didn't take some grumpy Censored phoned me to say the FL2 was the most unreliable car ever built but mine has been totally reliable.
