How unlucky am I?

Hi folks, won't bore you with the photos but a few weeks ago a lorry backed into the freelander putting a big gouge in the bonnet and smashing the bumper.
Anyway the lorry driver paid for the repairs and we sent it to XK engineering in Coventry who did a fantastic job, the car looked brand new. Highly recommended.
Picked up the car last thursday ready for our trip down to the cotswolds on friday with the tin tent.
Bit unsure whether to go at first as it was rather windy and not ideal for towing.
20 minutes into the journey, a branch comes off a tree and hits the bonnet putting 2 dents in it!
What are the chances of that?
Brand new bonnet less than 24 hours old! 😤 Martyn

Sorry to hear.

Many years ago a friend was behind a truck & a stone fell off, bounced on the bonnet, roof & boot! The car was almost new. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I witnessed an incident where someone had just picked up a brand new Triumph Herald and was driving it off the showroom forecourt when his foot slipped off the clutch and the car shot out into the road and straight under a lorry. The driver got out of the car, uninjured physically and just stood leaning on the remnants of his car crying his eyes out. The total distance he drove the car on the road (excluding the distance to get off the forecourt) was the length of the car.

Double accident

Sorry for that, very unlucky Martyn

Many years ago I had a Hillman Avenge, driving home I was hit in the rear. Next day got a quote and set off for work, on the same road but in the opposite direction got rear ended again, that finished the car off! 2013 GS Baltic Blue - part exchanged now for Volvo V40

Thanks for the messages, yes mainly naffed off that in all my years of driving I have never had a branch hit the car I was driving.
What can happen, will happen I suppose..
And at the end of the day no one was injured fortunately, just a bit of damage to a piece of metal with 4 wheels on it. 👍 Martyn

Could be a Freelander thing - overnight someone side swiped the back corner of my car, causing quite a bit of damage, then drove off leaving the trim from their van as a souvenir. I had it all fixed under my insurance, which took a week. I had it home 2 days before someone else drove into the front of it whilst it was parked, claiming they thought they were in reverse. They paid for it, but the garage couldn’t believe it 😂

One thing to watch with this sort of thing is that it can affect your insurance. A few years ago I had a couple of shunts which were clearly not my fault and the other side paid up so no claims were made but the following year my insurance company refused to renew my insurance on the grounds that I was unlucky! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
