Insurance and oil fired heating

Just renewed my house insurance and was asked if I had oil fired central heating. Never had this one before but apparently some insurance companies won't insure you if you have an oil tank unless you are an existing customer. Anyone else come across this? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Run by fools.

Clause on a cottage if being left empty “leave hatch into roof open and maintain 12 degrees of heat” thing was though there were no pipes or water tanks in the loft.

Thin end of the wedge. Next they will be asking if you have gas. Then it will be electricity. Then if there is any oxygen in the air around the home! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

If your tank is "bunded" then let them know as this would contain any leakage/spillage should the tank fail. It is the potential failure and the move to plastic tanks (subject to sudden failure) that has them worried.
That being said our insurer hasn't asked the question. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Was the land your property has been built on, ever occupied by dinosaurs? If so, you won’t be covered and you must supply evidence whatever answer you choose. Rolling Eyes

We had a payout for a damaged lounge carpet this year which came to about £800. This means that on compare the market, nobody wants to quote us. So, you can have house insurance and you can claim if by some miracle it doesn’t fall under wear and tear and if you have declared what socks, if any, you wear on a Tuesday.

But if you do claim, just remember you will be burned at the stake by all prospective insurance companies at renewal.

I am just in the middle of a claim as I have cancelled at short notice a Trekking holiday.

Insurance company leave message on my answerphone to get in touch. I did so yesterday.

"Where are you going" Nepal and you know that via my initial call followed up in writing by letter you that you admit having in front of you and months previously I paid you a upgrade fee for this trip and you issued me with a upgrade certificate.

"we need to to see your flight itinerary" At no point had I intended to walk to Nepal before starting my Trek (just saying).

Reason to not go is bad enough but FFS Lord give me strength or a AK47 to deal with these rip off numpties. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I am beginning to think that there are so many exclusions with insurance (and travel insurance in particular) that you might as well not bother. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

in my first house that I bought in 2003 I was ringing round for mortgage protection insurance in case I was ever out of work.
I have a diagnosed life long spinal issue (courtesy of 15 years in HM Forces Laughing ) which I declared to them but had never had a day off work because of it.
When the policy came through I noticed they had loaded the premium quite substantially but had put a clause in saying they wouldn't pay out if I was off sick due to my back.
I queried this with them and they admitted they had upped the premium as I was high risk, but wouldn't pay out if I was off sick because of it.
Policy cancelled immediately with the cooling off period much to their disgust !
