I wish they brought in a law, if there is a cycle path next to a road & you still ride on the road you would receive a heavy fine, I am all for cycling but when you see them riding two/three abreast it makes my blood boil.

Shame they don't clamp down more on cyclists here - ignoring traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, junctions, using their mobile etc. The list is endless.
And when will cyclists be required to be insured, so a claim can be made when they cause an accident, as you would do with any other road user

I ride a bike, although its an MTB so I ride mainly on off road trails. On the rare occasions I have no choice but to ride on the road I pretty much myself everytime a vehicle goes past. I simply don't trust drivers these days !!

Where safe and socially convenient to do so I would encourage any cyclist to ride (respectfully) on the footpath these days and use bike lines where possible. And of course the rules of the road still apply ref traffic lights,. junctions etc.

Cyclists should NOT be on mobile phones, jumping lights and riding like lunatics and should respect the laws of the roads, for their OWN safety if nothing else.

As for insurance for cyclists, if they cause an accident why not link it to their car or home insurance ? if they have neither then repairs get paid out their own pocket.

RogB, points noted, although I'm looking at this from someone in an urban environment who drives into east London to work where sadly the majority of cyclists don't seem to acknowledge lights, crossings etc

yeh the wonderful capital city does seem to have more than its fair share of arrogant tosser cyclists so I sympathise with you on that (case in point is that idiot who had a track bike with no front brake who killed a woman)

I curse at idiot cyclists as much as the next man, like those you wear the latest black lycra that can barely be seen... again for their own safety wear something visible !!

a friend of mine who works for Sky in London was riding his bike into work a few years back. He is very much a black & white kind of guy so follows all rules to the letter with no grey areas, including the highway code. He got knocked off his bike in a hit & run, driver was never caught.
He found out several weeks later that his ongoing back pain after the crash was caused by a cracked spine and he had to have several weeks off work.

There was a recent TV program about the antics of London cyclists - they do other cyclists (like me) no favours at all, yet they seem proud of their arrogant, selfish, anti-social and dangerous cycling.

Policing these idiots is just about impossible - and they know it.

What to do ? Its been suggested number plates (a QR code maybe) for all bikes on the road is the way forward - they can be recorded by cameras and also the public. Jules

Round here on rural roads they swarm around in packs, fine in principle but there are a lot of blind corners due to large hedges .

I can hear the road from my house, and on a Sunday morning the air is frequently filled with the shouts of cyclists moaning (swearing) at drivers.
not sure whos in the wrong, but if you want a pleasant sunday cycle why choose the road near me? relatively busy with many blind bends, lots of potholes so you cant cycle near the verge.
If you do choose such a suicide road then dont blame cars for coming the other way. it just a guy driving to get his sunday paper not an assassin At work

the glasses do help keeping flies, rain and other junk out your eyes although mine have different coloured lenses including clear set for riding in the dark.

as for MAMIL's (middle aged men in lycra) then its a big NO from me.... if I wore skin tight lycra I would look like a caterpillar !!!

It's the attitude of some who seem to think they can cycle through a light controlled crossing,
had this this morning, pedestrians already half way across and the arrogant sod goes straight through, also around the coast here, we have cycle paths, but the so many of them use the road!! instead
