Will it fit.

Looking to replace my battery before the Winter sets in, I don't use my Freelander 2 on a daily basis usually only at the weekends, if I dont use it for a couple of weeks its very sluggish to turn over when I do.

I had a Varta battery on my VW Transporter that got to 13 years of service before it started to slow down cranking so I replaced it last year before the cold weather.

I am going to get a Varta for the Freelander 2007 SE, the battery I have seen is an F18, 5AH more than the original & a bit more starting amps as well, I have measured the old battery to compare it to the Varta & they are around the same of 310 long 175 high & 175 wide. Has anyone changed theirs for this battery & if I just unbolt the old & bolt the new one on will I have any side effects to deal with. I intend to fit another earth strap from battery to engine while I have the battery off the car. Any tips or things I am likely to encounter would be helpful from you knowledgeable people here.

Sorry cannot help you with that BlueBoy but quite a few on here use Varta and also in the search area there's instructions and some pics i believe on the battery strap issue.
Good luck. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

My experience down this page:

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic30002.htm...p;start=15

The only real difficulty is just be careful of the weight with back & fingers!

Disconnect positive cable last taking out the old battery. Connect the positive cable first when the new battery is in place. Less chance of shorting! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Hi blueboy

I have just replaced my battery with a Bosch S5 010 that is actually 5mm longer than your choice, and the same height and width and it fitted fine.

Similarly it was 5Ah more and I have experienced no problems on my 2009 TDi

I too fitted an additional earth strap and you will need a 10mm eyelet one one end if you choose one of the starter motor bolts and a 6mm eyelet for the spare stud on the negative terminal connector.

I hope this helps.

Varta F18 fitted perfectly, the old Land Rover battery I took off had burned into the plastic case 0607 which I am guessing is the date of battery, the car is a 2007.

Its done well as 11 years old, its still starting ok but I noticed last Winter it was sluggish to start if it sat in the garage for a couple of weeks without being used, I also noticed the screen was saying low battery when sitting listening to the CD without the engine running & that was after driving 20 odd miles.

Hopefully be ok now when the Winter sets in properly. I reset the windows ok although whoever owned it before me did not reset them as I always had to hold the up switch to close them. They close with one touch now so all good.

Trouble is that when you search using your reg number it gives the wrong size battery......on mine it did at least. I need a 110 battery and it gave a 096 on the search. YMMV.
