Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit Issues, Need Help Urgently!!

I had hijacked StuartC thread so thought I would start a new one with a concise outline of the issues...

So, I have bought the new wheel which came with the heated module wiring already fitted. I have confirmed this is correct for the MY13 Freelander 2 which I have.
I have the new r/h switchpack and the heated clockspring.

All has been fitted and currently, I have no horn and the heated wheel does not work, though everything else does. The heated switch lights up green with the headlights but not orange and does not get hot.
I have a connector left over which belongs on the heated wheel wiring harness, I have nothing to plug into it. Pictured here:

From the 7 hours of research I have done, this extra bit does not feature anywhere.
Here are some photos to help.

Sorry I can`t help more. I gathered together most of the bits to do a retro fit to an earlier Freelander but ended up sending the s/h steering wheel back as it had a few marks on it and I haven`t managed to get another yet. From memory when I was messing around with the bits that I had I also had the extra plug that did not go anywhere. Fitting to an earlier car has more issues to overcome but I still have the heating module that looks exactly as yours does and has the same plug. Big Cry

At least you had the plug!! I am not worried about the plug if it does not do anything great but the horn and wheel not working are an issue. What I don't get is if I put the old r/h switchpack on the horn from both sides works fine!!

Well this is now driving me crazy. I have spent most of the night reading everything in relation to this and not one thing mentions this plug and not one mentions the horn not working. I have also noticed that the r/h switchpack with the heating switch has extra pins in the larger block but the white plug that goes into it is missing those pins. I am guessing that the newer switchpack is wired differently and those pins have something to do with the horn as if I put the old one in changing nothing else, the horn works.

I have checked there is a fuse in block 44 and there is and it is good.

I am sure someone on here has the answer as a few have done this mod. I am thinking that there is a different switchpack harness, did others use there old harness or did they get a new one? Please help!

I assume this will need activating in the CCF, have you done that?

No, I do not have the ability but it is not required according to others that have done it. It appears my theory is correct in that the switchpack loom is different for the heated wheel. I have ordered that now and if that doesn't work I will look at the CCF though do Idea how to do that....

Resolved!!!

Ok, it all works. I can confirm that the extra plug IS required and it was the switchpack wiring harness that was incorrect.

Anyone wanting to do this mod here is what you will need:
LR039869 - Swicthpack wiring harness
LR050910 - Right hand switchpack with heated wheel switch (different if you have piano black)
LR041045 - Heated steering wheel
LR039869 - Heated wheel wiring harness with temp regulator (should be in the wheel, but if not it is required)

This can only be done on MY13+ cars and does not require any software mods.

Thank you all, hopefully my hell can help others!

Thanks for this list AjM. About to do this mod myself, having just bought a heated wheel with the switchpacks included, and presumably the wiring harness too that is inside the wheel (thanks to dondiddy for the heads up in the eBay bargain spots thread).

But in addition to the parts listed above, do I also need to get hold of the heated clockspring (LR024653)?

Good luck

I did have a look on their eBay listings for the other parts and no joy, but I guess that's not to say they haven't got 'em. I'll drop them a note...
