Driving along Front Lights Flicker for second...!!!

Noticed this a couple of times over the last 2-3 months

Any ideas what the issue is?

Does cause any problems, just a noticeable flicker!!!

mine does this as well, (exactly same model as yours but early 2010)

ive changed the dipped/and main bulbs for upgraded versions and it seems to have stopped, but I also suspect my battery could be a bit flaky.

Hard to tell now the colder winter mornings are gone and not all the heated bits on the car are not drawing as much power. The battery is getting checked on Thursday anyway when I drop the car off to have the brakes replaced all round)

always thought the light switch sounded a bit iffy when you went from side lights to main beam, sounded a bit crackly ?

Mine has always done it, noticed it very early on, and was waiting for it to develop into a fault rather than a feature.
I put it down to the "intelligent" alternator, as the ECU varies the alternator output, the voltage must fluctuate, got seats, aircon, screen, lights on -there is going to be a momentary dip, and the lights flicker for a fraction of a second. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Well that's good news that its not just mine

I saw this also on my friend audi A6, he claims it is the can bus running a check on the lamps to determine if one is burnt,
he also claim that on some lamps it is less noticeable than others.

I have noticed a similar thing when the car is cold. I have experimented and found that touching the throttle is the trigger, I was noticing it when changing gears. It does not matter what the revs are, but if you take your foot off or in the throttle, the headlights flicker. Once the car is warm it no longer happens. Anyone else, any clues as to the cause?

Cause implies a problem.

This is more a feature, yes it happens, it is not a precursor to an immanent failure.
Mine did it for 8 years and many tens of thousands of miles without anything dying. Always thought it was the alternator stepping down from high to low charge rate, ie it was putting huge (190A) charge back into the battery to replenish the startup, and was now just powering the accessories. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

In a similar vein, I have noticed that my FL2 (auto) changes down a gear when I select heated seats going round the ring road on a cold morning, just after start up. I take this is also caused by the battery management system. - clever car! FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
