Apart from the general increase at budget time, your 2012 SD4 will not be affected by the new VED rules. These apply only to vehicles registered from 2018 onwards.

that's how I read it as well... NEW vehicles registered from 01/04/17 will be subject to what are IMO ridiculous levels of VED and will be for the first 5/6 years of their life.

Vehicles registered prior to 31/03/17 will not be affected other than by standard annual increases. I cant see them increasing these vastly as the millions of people who bought £0 or £30 VED cars will soon kick off at the government if they start getting hammered.

Can you point me in the direction of the report of increased VED for Scotland. As far as I am aware VED rates are still set at Westminster. Ta much!

Its all here ...

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/cons...x/page/0/1

"Road tax for older cars
If all of these changes seem daunting, they won't affect a car that has already been registered and is liable to annual road tax. None of these new tax rates are backdated, so they will only apply to new cars, so your current car will cost the same in road tax for the rest of its serviceable life, including if you put it back on the road after making a SORN (Statutory Off-Road Notification) declaration."

But its bonkers ...
"One particular beneficiary is the Ford Mustang 5.0 V8. If you bought one before 1 April 2017, then you'd be paying £515 a year in road tax, thanks to its emissions figure of 299g/km. After 1 April 2017, and thanks to the Mustang's sub-£40k list price, that drops to £140 a year." Jules

VED Farce

I have just worked out that I could spec a car just over 40K and not pay the uplifted VED as it does not included the on the road costs of First registration fee and cost of first licence and possibly also the delivery charges.

Big problem is say car was £39,999 then if you place a factory order the VED is applied at delivery date and if the factory added just £2 you are stuffed. Complete nonsense as it should surely be the cost at the date you signed for it. Evil or Very Mad FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

That's right - the tax is based on the list price including any factory fitted extras. It does not include any dealer-fitted extras, but nor does it take into account any discount you may agree.
The question of price rises after the order is put in is an interesting one. Anyone know the answer|? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

It's based on MRP (list), not the invoice price. Hence why they launched a DS Landmark, which is basically an HSE, badged HSE however no front foglights and sub-£40k (£39990)

If you negotiate it to say £37k as an example, you will still bear the relevant VED on the £39990, rather than the HSE MRP at £41k

All smoke and mirrors really.
