Apart from the general increase at budget time, your 2012 SD4 will not be affected by the new VED rules. These apply only to vehicles registered from 2018 onwards. |

that's how I read it as well... NEW vehicles registered from 01/04/17 will be subject to what are IMO ridiculous levels of VED and will be for the first 5/6 years of their life. Vehicles registered prior to 31/03/17 will not be affected other than by standard annual increases. I cant see them increasing these vastly as the millions of people who bought £0 or £30 VED cars will soon kick off at the government if they start getting hammered. |

I have just worked out that I could spec a car just over 40K and not pay the uplifted VED as it does not included the on the road costs of First registration fee and cost of first licence and possibly also the delivery charges.

That's right - the tax is based on the list price including any factory fitted extras. It does not include any dealer-fitted extras, but nor does it take into account any discount you may agree.

It's based on MRP (list), not the invoice price. Hence why they launched a DS Landmark, which is basically an HSE, badged HSE however no front foglights and sub-£40k (£39990)
