Just bought this car over xmas a 2007 freelander 2.2 Lt diesel. today out driving the engine just cut out, took key out and it started again so drove home. Just pulled into my driveway and sitting in Park the car just did a wobbly and I kid you not i couldn't even turn the engine of with the stop button nor could i put it in any gear. So I took my shopping inside and came out 5 min later and the engine was stopped. Able to remove key fob. So re-insered key and all is well. Any body had this experience where you cant stop the engine? and is there a way to stop the motor?

I wonder if you have a throttle body problem? One of it's functions is to help stop the engine. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

The engine is electronically-controlled so disconnecting the battery would stop it.

If its diesel you need to check that the sump oil has not been contaminated with it. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

I suspect the 'running on' is a throttle body flap problem.
As long as it has an air supply, a diesel will burn anything, including any lubricating oil in airways.
The flap is supposed to close and stop this. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
