Thanks for that, that's first time I have heard this take on it and makes a valid point about the 2 different wheel mounting types |

If you are at all worried for a few £ you should be able to pick up a full size alloy wheel from eBay or from someone selling one here, the design does not have to match as long as it is same size. |

Not worried about it just I would like to know the official LR take on it. I have been looking out for a full size as you suggest but it would have to be a matching one (just my OCD ![]() I'll keep looking though ![]() 2013 SD4 HSE The posh one for towing the caravan 1973 Triumph Stag I bought in 2009 and restored. |

Providing the rear axle loading is not exceeded it matters not whether you are towing or just fully loaded the loading on the wheel and tyre are the same. With regard to the nuts, if they are not suitable for steel wheels the LR should have supplied new nuts with the wheel, I suspect that is a fallacy as the only time there is a problem between steel and alloy wheels and their fixings is when bolts are used not nuts, bolts for alloy wheels are usually of a higher tensile strength due to higher torque settings.

There must be a reason for putting the speed restriction in place |

as previously said, it the wheel nuts been for alloys and not steels, speed restrictions just lessen the risk Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis |

The speed restriction is due to the tyre speed rating not the wheel, though it would be unwise to travel at high speed if any wheel was of smaller width and diameter than the fitted wheels, though the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre is that of the fitted wheels on the vehicle. Same as you wouldn't drive at high speed with three 19" wheels and one 16 or 17 inch wheel. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The tyre speed rating is H 130 mph (this is the original unused spare )
