Quality of Steel in question

I saw this article this morning about bad batches of metal being used for car production.

Recently we have had posted on this this forum some pictures of Haldex bearing wear which I found puzzling.

Could it be that in the past the quality of metals used have not been as good as planned?

I was in the aluminium industry in a previous life, up to the 1990s & the amount of rubbish aluminium from Asian which did not come up to Australian standards was relentless.

Customers used to blame us because for a failed product, then we chemically analysed it, about $600 per test, found out that it had a different chemical composition. We told the customer that this aluminium did not come from us. Then they admitted that to save money they were substituting the more expensive Australian aluminium made to Australian standards (copy of ISO standards) was replaced for cheaper rubbish from Asia.

It was a never ending problem. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
