Firstly apologies if I am found to be repeating the subject and details of a previous post. I'm new to the forum and I believe I've searched for the answers thoroughly!

Over in Swiss, we are forced down a route to add winter tyres. It is not mandatory but insurance companies could disclaim, should you be found not in full control of your car if an event occurs and damages could have been prevented with the correct equipment (e.g. weather appropriate tyres).

I'm quite happy to follow; [ https://www.wheel-size.com/size/land-rover/freelander-2/2014 ] for the standard fitments.

From this, I have derived that the recommended winter fittings should be the 17" wheel 7.5J with an offset of ET55 and a tyre size of 235/65. All fine.

Now then... to mitigate damage to my 19" diamond turned LR wheels and to ideally follow the recommended wheels/tyres for the winter season I am looking to buy a set of additional wheels. 17" which would suit the ET55 offset.

Ideally I'd buy a genuine set of LR Freelander 2 wheels. I have also seen the "DEZENT TE" can be seen here as a recommended fit for Freelander 2 (my model)

However, on the DEZENT website, the PCD 5x108 says that the offset = ET48

If you had wondered, I think I'll go for the Firestone Destination Winter in size 235/65 R17 108 V


My questions are as follows.

1) ET48 on a recommended ET55 fitting? Is this a big problem? The wheel is suitable for the car according to mytyres as above.

2) Does anyone know (aside from ebay click link) where I might be able to purchase a set of 4 Genuine Freelander 2 17" Shadow Chrome 5 Split Spoke Alloy Wheels?

I run INSA Dakar Turbo 235/65/17 on LR steel rims.

Not sure what's available in CH but remember you can also fit Evoque wheels (usually these come as 18"). Plenty of these for sale over here, and would probably ship out to you - I bought a set shipped from Northern Ireland. You might even find someone on the forum who could take delivery for you and might be able to bring them to you, although it's quite a long shot! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Cheers Past master. I had thought about Evoque wheels although the offset is ET45 isnt it? Therefore the DEZENT TE wheels would be closer at ET48. If Evoque wheels dont cause any issues, however, then this probably answers my question I guess.

Yes, Evoque wheels are fine. The difference is so small as not to be noticeable. Not good to use FL2 wheels on an Evoque though, as there isn't quite enough clearance (but not your problem!) Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Here winter tyres are mandatory. I bought a used set of Evoque 19" wheels and fitted Vredestein Wintrac 4 tyres. The standard 235/55 R19 fitment is a relatively high profile for a 19" rim and has performed well in quite severe conditions. driving on the right side

Given the awful summer we are having in the UK I think there is a case for winter tyres all year round.  3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Quite a few people do run them all year round. I'd be tempted to do that on the Vredesteins as they seemed to wear very well. The main reason for winter tyres here is night-time and early morning driving, when winter temperatures (and sometimes summer too!) are usually below the magic 7 degrees C. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

You may want to look at Ford Mondeo wheels and Tyres ......... as Ford engineers designed the FL2, not Land Rover engineers. Most parts are a common fit when it comes to running gear.

I imagine the Ford wheels are not designed to take either the weight of the FL2 or the stress of off-road driving. I would not be happy to chance it, and I suspect my insurance would not be either! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Thanks for all of the above. I gather ET45-ET55 offsets should do as a generic, the closer to ET55 the better?
I could just buy some replacement tyres in 19" but I don't want to risk damaging the alloys with the on/off process twice a year.
A smaller wheel with a 65 profile should also help the ride no? hence my 17" choice, as guided by "wheel size" link earlier in original post.
I'll take silence as though I'm not doing anything fundamentally wrong and let you know how it goes... any other thoughts on this pls share!

Got Vredesteins on a set of alloy wheels for my wifes sporty type car in Winter. Came from tyremen in Hull.

Running the FL2 all year on 17" Michelin Crossclimates (had to uprate speed rating to find them available). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I believe on the Freelander 2 the front 1601mm and the rear 1614mm.
I see on https://www.wheel-size.com/size/land-rover/freelander-2/2014/ the min/max ET ranges from 35 to 55 but using the calculation for a 7.5J 17" wheel, the minimum ET should really be 39.

Depending on whether I get back to the UK before "winter season" is upon us, I will either source some LR genuine 17s with an offset of ET55 or if not, I'll go for the DEZENT wheels at ET48.
