clever marketing when you think about it

servicing every 21k/2 years
PCP deals lasting 3 years

dealer can take a 3 year old DS back in at the end of the PCP without the need to service it before putting it back on the forecourt at an inflated price for virtually no outlay. New owner has the car 1 year and needs to service it so most likely goes back to the said dealer...... Whistle

Although the dealer would be very unwise to do that on a DS without an oil change and a few checks (which is basically a service). Otherwise likely to have an angry buyer coming back a few weeks later wanting to know why the car is demanding an oil service (Most of them do this every year or less). They'd have to top up the Adblue for the same reason (current Adblue range is around 6000 miles).
Most cars have a Service Plan, so the car would come back to the dealer anyway for its second (4-year) free service. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

surely though if the service interval is 21k or 2 years then a new owner of a 3 year old DS wouldn't see the service indicator come up in the first year ?
yes the dealer would/should carry out basic checks but from my own experience if the service indicator isn't showing then they wont service it (even when I pointed out on test drive that the service indicator was up on my old Ewok they still didn't service it before I bought it)

Ho ho ho!
The position with the DS is (in short - there are A LOT of pages on this on the DS forum):
The service is due at 21000 miles or two years.
The 5-year service plan therefore gives you TWO services plus free Adblue top-ups.
BUT most cars are asking for an oil service at 6000 to 10000 miles, and LR are providing a FREE interim oil change under warranty (although some dealers need "persuading" with a copy of the relevant service bulletin).
Early cars get around 12000 miles on a tank of Adblue, MY 17 cars get half that.
Have a look at https://www.discosportforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6469 - for example.
My car was an ex-demo, so I assume lots of short journeys, and it asked for an oil change at around 10000 miles. This was done under warranty. First service done at 20500 miles. Not asked for an oil change since (6500 miles) but I expect it to happen before the next service is due.
A prudent dealer would do the oil change, charge Land Rover as a warranty item if possible, and reset the counter.
Nb, this applies to the Ingenium engine, not the 2.2 fitted to early cars. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

so really the 21,000 mile service interval is a complete load of marketing waffle if the oil service indicator comes up at around 10,000.

What happens when the vehicle is out of warranty and on its 2nd/3rd/4th owner? who has bought the car thinking ''great I have 21k service intervals and can save money'' but gets the oil service flashing up every 10k ? so doubling his perceived service costs during ownership ?

and with talk of MOT being extended to begin at a cars 4th birthday.......

You are not the first to ask this! If you are bored and need something to read the DS forum has 198 pages on this very topic: https://www.discosportforums.co.uk/viewtop...e+interval
