I have this on both my Freelanders (MY 2013). It happens when lightly applying the brakes and the car seems to recognizes that gearing down through the auto box will aid to the braking. 2013 SD4 SE (hers)

It maybe the alternator kicking in and braking the car a bit. It is supposed to do this when free energy is available. I have noticed this going down some of our steep hills, sometimes it feels as there is a small anchor out the back & other times not so. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I've just driven around the Pyrenees and have noticed similar things going on. It's like it knocks itself out of gear to freewheel at times. Then, at a certain speed it re-engages into a gear. Hence the nudge.

My son has a VW Toureg auto and his uses the alternator braking technique and it's supposed to be well know but I have never seen it referred to on Freelanders. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto 5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE |
