Auto gearbox software

Having driven my SD4 auto now for a few months I am starting to notice a few subtle foibles in the auto box. Generally it works fine and is very smooth but I have noticed, and I think it's when it hasn't really warmed up, that if I slow down from say 40mph whilst braking there comes a point (probably at around 10mph) as it drops down through the gears where you feel a slight nudge as if engine braking is suddenly adding to the braking effort. It's the sort of thing that the driver notices but not the passengers.
The car was at the dealers yesterday for a door locking problem but I asked them to have a look at it. They said that there is a software update for my gearbox but it's not just a quick update, it requires the car/gearbox to get up to temperature and then cycle through a series of gear changes. They said it would be about an hour's labour and if it gets too noticeable they might be able to get it done under warranty but best to leave it for the next service.
I will see how it develops. Has anyone else seen anything like this? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have this on both my Freelanders (MY 2013). It happens when lightly applying the brakes and the car seems to recognizes that gearing down through the auto box will aid to the braking. 2013 SD4 SE (hers)

It maybe the alternator kicking in and braking the car a bit. It is supposed to do this when free energy is available. I have noticed this going down some of our steep hills, sometimes it feels as there is a small anchor out the back & other times not so. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I've just driven around the Pyrenees and have noticed similar things going on. It's like it knocks itself out of gear to freewheel at times. Then, at a certain speed it re-engages into a gear. Hence the nudge.
I took to using command shift going up and down the hills. 1, going down hill to hold on to a gear for better engine braking. And 2, when going up hill, to stop it changing up whenever you take your foot off the throttle, and then hunting for the correct gear when you want to accelerate out of a corner. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

My son has a VW Toureg auto and his uses the alternator braking technique and it's supposed to be well know but I have never seen it referred to on Freelanders. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
