Steering whine

I noticed today my FL making a whine sounding like it was from the turbo louder than usual when acccelerating and changing gear.
Then I tried revving the engine when stationary and turning the steering wheel and the whine got very loud and stopped when I stopped turning the wheel.

I have never noticed this before so is this normal?
It's too dark to check the steering fluid at moment just wondered if anyone else had encountered a similar problem?
Thanks

Same thing happened to mine. Local Stealer "technician" advised that the power steering reservoir needed changing. I specifically asked if it was safe to drive and was asured it was. WRONG!!

Less than a week along and the steering also went really heavy so I called LRA on advice from workmates. LRA Man was shocked to hear the advice I had been given and raised official complaint to after sales manager.

It is dangerous to continue driving.

After sales manager called personally to apologise.

Go the LRA route - be safe!! 07 RRS Java Black

I had the same issue and needed a new pump and rack. I also was advised to continue driving it despite power steering cutting out mid corner. I decided to park it until it could be fixed. I'd say a bad batch of pumps made it out there, when was yours built? Mine was Oct 07 I think.

Ok I just had LRA guy out.
He advised it is probably the Fluid reservoir as well, as there may be a restriction in it/the pipe and there is a modified one out now?!?

He said to book it in with Town and County and get it changed.
I asked him 3 times if it was safe to drive and was advised each time it was Shocked

We will see.......

Thanks to this forum I highlighted this noise (which otherwise I may have ignored for a while longer) when I took my Freelander in for it's 1st service today. Guy Salmon immediately changed the reservoir under warranty without batting an eyelid. This appears to be a known problem now.
