Same thing happened to mine. Local Stealer "technician" advised that the power steering reservoir needed changing. I specifically asked if it was safe to drive and was asured it was. WRONG!!

I had the same issue and needed a new pump and rack. I also was advised to continue driving it despite power steering cutting out mid corner. I decided to park it until it could be fixed. I'd say a bad batch of pumps made it out there, when was yours built? Mine was Oct 07 I think. |

They changed the fluid reservoir today and it SEEMS ok.

Thanks to this forum I highlighted this noise (which otherwise I may have ignored for a while longer) when I took my Freelander in for it's 1st service today. Guy Salmon immediately changed the reservoir under warranty without batting an eyelid. This appears to be a known problem now. |
