This recent consumer law discussion on the faulty car got me thinking if I ever told you about how I kicked ass via the ASA. I trawled through my old posts on here but could not find anything.

Back in Christmas 2013, Santa got me a Nikon P520 bridge camera which I asked for as I prepared for my big USA holiday for my 30th. The box said quite proudly that it came with a 2 year warranty and I hasten to add that there was no "*please see terms and conditions." Just plain and simple 2 year warranty.

I registered my warranty on Nikon's website and it said that I only get the 2nd year of the warranty if I agree to their marketing email bombardment! Twisted Evil

I don't have time for your marketing, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills... Laughing I thought I'm not having that sh Censored so I contacted the ASA via their online reporting system and sent them photos of the box and some screenshots.

They contacted me to say they believed I had a strong case and would take it up with Nikon. A few days later they contacted me to say Nikon would be withdrawing their advert and current policy and told me to email a manager at Nikon who would register my 2 year warranty without all the marketing crap.

Mr. Green A nice victory for the consumer and great service from the ASA Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
