cctv

finally chose a cctv system for home

looked at a few, from swann to Hikvision, but running wires really put me off so bought the Netgear Arlo Pro which is totally wireless, cameras are 720p night vision and should run for 6 months on a charge, dependant on motion detection, live views used etc, but they don't take long to recharge from what read

not cheap, but simple to install and with upgrades to philips hue lights, and switches the IFTTT side of it can turn lights on, phone me, send reminders when batteries get low and what other recipes i can think of

quiet impressed so far Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

We had a Hikvision system pro installed a month or so back, 5 wired HD cameras with IR for night vision, 4TB HDD recorder, ( about a month for the 5 cameras on 1080P ) and a hard wire into the router so we can view from our IPads and mobile phones. I had them install the DV Recorder and power supplies in a upper cupboard and I've built a false floor over it . Rather than them supply a monitor I've bought a 28 " LED Samsung Smart TV/Monitor so it doubles as the spare bedroom telly.

It is amazing , fantastic quality, and it helped us identify a vehicle involved in £600 worth of equipment theft. That's where the whole thing unravels though as Mr Plod isn't exactly interested in something so insignificant. Big Cry At least we know who the scrote is.

It's a sad fact that these things are necessary , but with at least 6 high definition systems in 1/2 a mile run around here ( including one ANPR reader being installed by a neighbour ) I feel a lot happier. ... oh and my wife likes watching the foxes and roe deer Rolling with laughter

You will also sleep easier with your camera system and presumably you already have an alarm. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

We have an alarm, enclosed gardens with 6ft fence or 10ft hedges, but at our old house we had our garage raided and I installed driveway sensors that bing bonged in the house and had these moved to the new house when we moved, rather get up and see a cat than a cat burglar if it went off.

But if am away I like the fact that I had cctv email a video of a sensor picked something up, so a single IP Swann camera got a whole system upgrade, if anything happens at least I have a video or photo of a culprit

That and apparently having my MTB in the hallway for a year is a little long so it was garage clear out last week and made room for it to be put in there at some point Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

My next job is to mount a MasterBlaster siren inside the garage in parallel with a high powered strobe then get them hard wired into the garage alarm panel. Objective being that it would be unbearable to stay inside. My neighbour has one of those sirens mounted externally , it's unbearable to stand within 10 metres of it . Inside the garage it would be devastating.

Weve been here 30 years and had very little trouble, but recently scrotes seem to get more daring or just couldn't care less because they will never be investigated for " Petty Crime*" and unfortunately we see more unicorns than police where we live. Still never mind when Dianne Abbot becomes Home Secretary we can rest assured that for £30 per annum per copper we can probably employ half a dozen ourselves Rolling with laughter

* my idea of petty seems to differ to those who classify such things Censored 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Some years ago I had a caravan stolen. Insurance paid out, and I bought another.

I designed and installed an electrical system that if 'Mr Thief' tried to hook up my caravan to his tow vehicle electrics ..... every light he tried to use ....... would blow the fuse in that tow vehicle. Side lamps ... fuse blown, brake lamps ... fuse blown, indicators .... fuse Blown. In parallel ALL the lights on the caravan would flash randomly whilst being towed, but NOT whilst stationary.
This would bring attention to both the tow vehicle and the caravan alike.

I informed my insurance I had fitted this type of, self designed, alarm system ........ to which they said They would NOT insure my caravan, as it 'posed a danger' to the thief who was stealing it !!!

Well Well Well ........

Its like the keyless ignition on 2013> Freelander (and others) if you leave the key in your pocket and walk away from the car with the engine running, it can be driven away by anyone. But once the engine is stopped it cant be restarted (not an issue if its being broken for spares)
this is because if the engine were to cut out a certain distance away from the key it could be detrimental to the person who has stolen it...
