Took a few pics in the car park at the top of the pass. Then on the way down 'the struggle' I decided to demonstrate the hill descent control to Mrs G. All I can say is doing this results in a load of banging noises from the braking system which wakes the baby and earns you a from the wife

Our Sat Nav took us the shortest route from Grasmere to Langdale 'the red bank road', now there is a fine road to test out your cars hill climbing abilities all good fun but again maybe not wise with a baby in the car.


Oh and if you drive into an Ambleside carpark and immediately park in a place that someone else has 'apparently being waiting for' they get quite annoyed

I recently did the Wrynose and Hardnott Passes, in the total pi55ing rain, floodwater everywhere, that was fun.

As well as try HDC did you try see how steep it would climb on the anti-stall; I've found it quite amazing. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!

What a suicide mission that would be! 

Longer ago that I care to rember we used to do road rallies across the Hardnott and Wrynose passes in the dark in a Ford RS2000 travelling at speeds well into the sixty miles per hour zone in the dark and I had never travelled the roads in daylight until last year and nearly had a heart attack when I same some of the drops off the sides.
In fact a couple of years back a coach driver ignored the signs crashed over the edge and several people were killed, so take it easy and enjoy the fantastic views.

Hardknott is a great drive, I am lucky as I can use it as an alternative route home from work!

Ah yes, Wrynose and Hardknott - what a great drive!
I did it three times in my old 2.5 Vectra one day after leaving my tent poles back in Doncaster - Great fun!
Stayed in Eskdale at Fisherground campsite which is a great site.

Mrs G has banned me from Wrynose and Hardknott after a rather spirited drive across them a few years ago in our A3 , I got a bit carried away and scared her half to death  At work

I have the best play area for the FL 2 i live at the bottom of Eskdale and own the Campsite at Eskdale,so the offer is if any-one wants to come and camp Very good discounts are on offer !!or come in and stop in one of my Pods (check out youtube.com eskdale camping pods )or google the same
or if your passing stop for a brew/coffee.
We went up the pass on tuesday this week going to a meeting i turned back after the second set of bends ice every-where,we went over birker fell abit longer but got there !!!
Best bit yet we could have a summer get to-gether on the campsite ??
I will put some pictures of the Pods on this page to-day just need to wake up abit before i pick a camera up

Wow ... so you own the pods !!!

We were up your way just a few weeks ago, took a drive over the passes when it was raining (a bit!) just a couple of days before that fell race incident.

I stopped and took a couple of pictures of the pods, not seen anything like that in the UK before. But have stayed in something similar when we used to live in the USA, cabins are quite popular on their camping grounds.
