For what it's worth: my son's Ford Focus was diagnosed with a failing turbo a while ago. The symptoms were simply lots of oil all over the place. I found a place that supplies new turbo core units on eBay for about £90 - far cheaper than a complete new turbo - and fitted that. Relatively straightforward job, but it didn't cure the oil leak, which we finally traced to a tiny split in one of the turbo hoses that was completely invisible with the engine running normally, but was obviously opening up under load and spraying a fine mist over the entire engine compartment. Replaced the hose and everything now fine, and the re-built turbo is still going strong after nearly 2 years. |
