HELP ! Gearbox solenoid clicking ???

Hi all, this is my first post so please bear with me.

Recently bought brand new TD4 GS manual and love it !. After 1200 miles its developed a really annoying click which vibrates up the gear lever when slowing to less than 10mph or stopping. Stealer tells me its normal, the factory are aware of it, and all Freelanders do it and its caused by a solenoid clicking or energising to stop the gear box going into reverse as it slows. This sounds like rubbish to me, but is he right ???

Has anyone else experienced this ???

Welcome to forum. Mine is auto, so obviously different. However, I drive my Dad's manual and it doesn't do that. 2007 - 13,000 miles. Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Fell Wanderer....you are not alone! My 5,000 mile 08 Reg manual XS clicks as you describe. The solenoid is designed to act at below 5mph, and like you I have been told this is 'normal'. This of course does not explain why it started clicking after a few thousand miles, nor why both of the manual demonstrators I drove didn't do it either.

I have been engaged in a major battle with LR on another 'body panel integrity issue' for several months, which they have eventually sorted. I shall be monitoring the 'click' and if it gets any worse, insist that it be replaced at the first service (which incidentally LR are paying for by way of goodwill related to the longer running issue).

OK, my car is now at 46k miles, have had this 'click' from day one, can be heard (and felt) does not cause a problem, and it is the reverse lockout mechanism. Try pulling the gear lever across for reverse without the ignition on, you'll see how much further the lever travels. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ...
