No ticking on mine either and as you can read here, it certainly isn't a normal sound

Welcome to forum. Mine is auto, so obviously different. However, I drive my Dad's manual and it doesn't do that. 2007 - 13,000 miles. Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass |

Fell Wanderer....you are not alone! My 5,000 mile 08 Reg manual XS clicks as you describe. The solenoid is designed to act at below 5mph, and like you I have been told this is 'normal'. This of course does not explain why it started clicking after a few thousand miles, nor why both of the manual demonstrators I drove didn't do it either.

OK, my car is now at 46k miles, have had this 'click' from day one, can be heard (and felt) does not cause a problem, and it is the reverse lockout mechanism. Try pulling the gear lever across for reverse without the ignition on, you'll see how much further the lever travels. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!
