Wiring on both rear side windows Question

Well, I felt a complete numpty when I reported to my dealer that the rear side demisters were not working . He went away , then came back and said that there are no side demisters and these are the aerials.

So why are there two aerials ? Radio one side and GPS on the other ?

Anybody know ?

I am still looking for faults in my new Freelander and have been unsuccessful so far Big Cry

I thought they was heating elements, but one is the radio aerial and the other is a TV aerial if you opted for the non existent TV option Rolling Eyes Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Some time ago it was stated on the forum that one was for the normal radio antenna and the other was for the DAB radio - originally I too assumed they were heating elements.

Taken from Freelander 2 Workshop Manual, explains what you want to know

The AM/FM antenna is etched onto the RH side window glass. The antenna has an amplifier located just above the
window. This amplifier will vary upon the entertainment and information system fitted to the vehicle. High line systems
will have a larger amplifier for diversity tuning.
The rear window incorporates 2 FM antennae and a VICS/TMC antenna etched onto the glass. The 2 FM antennae
are used in the diversity tuning system along with the respective antenna amplifiers.
The LH side window antenna is used for DAB band III signal reception.

TV needs two aerials, one front, one rear on apposing sides of the car to maximise the signal. Signal can be iffy at the moment until the digital switch over which in the anglia region is still another 3 years away!!!!!! Big Cry

I too would like to have this info if possible as it would give the definitive answers to a lot of the questions that come up in the various topics on this forum.

I got the info from Landover’s Technical Site http://www.landrovertechinfo.com/extlrprod/index2.jsp?

Dave kindly supplied the link originally in topic http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic2378-15.html and you will see I cursed him because I lost half a day just trawling the site and sourcing all the info I wanted.

You have to pay for a subscription, but for 24 hours it wasn't expensive considering the technical info you get access to. I must say though I didn't get the whole workshop manual because it’s quite big, so I restricted what I printed to those areas I am likely to wish to work on myself.

Cheers

Chris
