Halfords OAT Antifreeze Concentrate

Any reason for not using this (diluted 50/50) for a coolant change? I think mine has LR coolant in it at the moment. 1978 Laverda Jota. Stolen...

I would only use it if the spec. is the same as the manufacturer's. Modern engines require different types of inhibitors etc and might be unhappy with the wrong one. I wouldn't use cheap oil, and the coolant stays in the engine a lot longer than the oil. Forum sponsor Opie Oils might b a good bet. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I use OAT antifreeze in all the cars my family have. Not Halfords though.
As long as the system is thoroughly flushed out first should be OK. OAT will react with standard antifreeze and could turn to a sludge if mixed. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Yes the word is coolant. Antifreeze went out with global warming. Rolling Eyes

Check the LR spec, as with oils what is sold by factors etc as suitable often is not. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I understand the difference although Halfords use the terms "antifreeze" & "coolant" rather loosely hence the apparent lack of specificity. Will probably use LR STC50529 to avoid any risk. With unambiguous accurately this is called "Extended Life Anti-Freeze coolant" on the bottle.

Thanks all for the feedback Thumbs Up 1978 Laverda Jota. Stolen...

I had to top up coolant recently first time it's needed it so went to Halfords and got some concentrate stuff, they seemed to take a great deal of time checking on computer to make sure it was right for the car,at 15 quid for a litre it wasn't cheap but I was impressed with the service.

Sensible for once

Opie oils a site sponser sell many coolants/Antifreeze and offer discounts to this sites members.

Problem as I tried to highlight before is getting the right one as they have such a large selection and some will not be compatible.

Solution for me would be talk to Millers Oils in Yorkshire by email or phone and ask them what they recommend as Opie stock Miller Coolant/antifreeze. By all means let us know if you do that and what was the outcome. Thumbs Up

Contacting Millers and then Opie is how I choose my engine oil for the last few services. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

So if you mix the 2lts how much do you get in total to put in cooling system ?

Often in places like ASDA you see screen wash ready to use and also concentrate and sums have to be done. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
