England 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Santorini Black
New Camera

My trusty FinePix S5600 has given up so looking for a new camera.
My mind is now boggled, so many types, features etc, so turning to you guys for help.
Looking for a compact, bridge or dslr, MAX price is £375.00 including any lens.
Mostly used on family stuff, holidays, landscapes, wildlife, cars, buildings, well all-rounder I guess.
Any advice appreciated. Common sense isn't very common.

I have the Nikon P520 bridge camera. If you go down the bridge camera road, go for the latest Nikon which will have even better specs than my P520.

My camera has 42x optical zoom and I have used it extensively when on some great holidays to the USA and it will be utilised again in Italy this year. There are many settings you can use but I find auto suits most situations and then I just tweak the pictures a little on my computer.

I've used it to take great shots of the moon too with appropriate settings used. I'd never get enough use out of various lenses to justify the cost of DSLR so the bridge camera was the one for me.

Thumbs Up

Happy to email you sample pictures later if you want. Got some good shots of the Grand Canyon LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Thanks Doc, looks really good, a lot like the Canon PowerShot SX60, unfortunately they don't make it anymore. Big Cry Common sense isn't very common.

10 years ago I bought the predecessor of this https://www.ukdigital.co.uk/panasonic-hc-vx980-hd-camcorder.html, never needed anything else, OK it's not an SLR but brilliant results in both still and video as well as fitting in your jacket pocket. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Ah right, got confused earlier, thought the Canon was no longer available, my wife has a Canon SX60 HS, its superb, excellent zoom range, clear as anything pictures.
The downside for me is that the menu's are not what I am used to so I find it a little frustrating, I am used to an SLR and take control of everything, the SX60 does it all for you, and does it very well.

If you get to know the camera it is capable of some great stuff, the x50 zoom is awesome.

I will find some pics if you like?

I used to take a lot of photographs with my DSLR or a Compact and always had a camera in the car but since getting an iphone 6 find that the quality is such that for everyday use the phone is perfectly aequate. The result is that I hardly take my "proper" cameras out any more except on special occasions.

PS found my old Canon T90 in the back of a cupboard the other day and it's still got a film in! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The SX60 is good but there is no camera that stops people cutting bits off, here's one Elaine took a few weeks ago Laughing

Some quick sample photos as agreed. Used auto mode for these and then just some subtle tweaks on my computer. Great zoom detail on the river flowing through the canyon.

With the camera we discussed via PM, you have a greater optical zoom than the P520 so you will see excellent results.

My FinePix S5600 also gave up last year after @9 years service, I keep looking for a replacement, however I have found that my Sony Xperia phone is great for general photo's and is always in my pocket.

I will need to get another camera as I like a camera for "better photo's, let me know what you end up with Smile
