I have the Nikon P520 bridge camera. If you go down the bridge camera road, go for the latest Nikon which will have even better specs than my P520.

Thanks Doc, looks really good, a lot like the Canon PowerShot SX60, unfortunately they don't make it anymore. Common sense isn't very common.

10 years ago I bought the predecessor of this https://www.ukdigital.co.uk/panasonic-hc-vx980-hd-camcorder.html, never needed anything else, OK it's not an SLR but brilliant results in both still and video as well as fitting in your jacket pocket. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Ah right, got confused earlier, thought the Canon was no longer available, my wife has a Canon SX60 HS, its superb, excellent zoom range, clear as anything pictures.

I used to take a lot of photographs with my DSLR or a Compact and always had a camera in the car but since getting an iphone 6 find that the quality is such that for everyday use the phone is perfectly aequate. The result is that I hardly take my "proper" cameras out any more except on special occasions.

The SX60 is good but there is no camera that stops people cutting bits off, here's one Elaine took a few weeks ago

Some quick sample photos as agreed. Used auto mode for these and then just some subtle tweaks on my computer. Great zoom detail on the river flowing through the canyon.

My FinePix S5600 also gave up last year after @9 years service, I keep looking for a replacement, however I have found that my Sony Xperia phone is great for general photo's and is always in my pocket.
