Intake for turbo diesel engine - always positive pressure because of turbo - no oil sucked at valve stems.
Exhaust - Bernoulli principle - suction at valve stems. Always.
You could say that on intake too applies the B principle, but there the turbo pressure could be much more than the intake flow (see surging phenomena) and not always oil is sucked.

Example for diesel injector return line redirected to intake for lubing intake valve stems: search old D245 engine (below).

Thanks Alex , that's very interesting Smile

Maybe the part that has liquefied in the horizontal induction pipe isn't so useful though (despite other vapour usefully continuing n)??

I worry that once I fix the leak, the oil will now run down to the turbo and gum it up? Maybe I am worrying too much I don't know. My thought was that if I add an oil run off at the point in the horizontal pipe where it gathers then I can stop oil running down to the turbo (where in the past I have also observed seepage). The intentional vapor would still continue unaltered.

What do you think - is it worth bothering?

No.
At the speed the turbo is spinning, almost nothing stays on the (intake) blades...

Our Freelander has just done 108k miles I am planning a similar install on our 2.2 TD4, will add some pictures when I get around to doing the install (when it warms up). I also plan to remove the swirl flaps blank the EGR and swap out the glow plugs for some fresh ones whilst I have the inlet manifold off.

Just for interest if anyone is interested in parts cost etc:

1 Meters of 19mm ID reinforced silicone hose £8
EGR blanking plate £3.50
Oil catch can (with 19mm outlets) £18
Pipe joiner (straight) 19mm x2 £3
180 degree 19mm ubend hose £13

Total £45.50

Extra’s

Glow plugs NGK (set 4) £30
Manifold replacement seals £12

I went for 19mm pipe so it matches the stock inlet back on air pipe heading back off from the oil catch can, if anyone wants any extra pictures when I do the job let me know as ill be checking back here before I do the install, either spring or winter if I get bored and the weather improves, not much chance of that in Cornwall when your near the sea!

Well that was actually quite an enjoyable modification to make I tried to make it look as factory as possible, made a custom bracket and modified the air box to accomodate using a collection of nuts bolts and washers.

Oil catch can with 19mm connection to accept factory hose size

Bracket install

After installation

Connected up to the breather and back out to the catch can went for 19mm reinforced hose to match the factory original from the breather.

EGR blanked new swirless manifold and catch can installed phew!

Will update October 2021 when I do the next oil service with volumes catched in the can Thumbs Up

If you go to your gallery, there is an option under each picture to be able to rotate it.

I don't think I could resist having the occasional look in the can long before October '21! Given the amount of oil seeping out of the junction after my organ pipes, the can could be full in no time! Rolling with laughter 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Considering the above said, shouldn't your oil consumption, up until now, point to that?
I mean the amount of oil in the can should miss from the sump, right?...
So a question to all: which is your oil consumption, dipstick wise?...
