Does anybody offhand know what the outside diameter of the oil filter housing on the SD4 2.2 Litre diesel engine is?
(Don't want to make the effort of removing the sump guard beforehand to measure it myself).
Want to see if a clamp fitting around it can be used to remove the housing, instead of buying the rather expensive flexible ratchet wrench.

It's made of plastic and a clamp around it may well shatter it. I'd imagine a new housing won't be cheap either. Try a 27mm socket and a universal joint and extension etc if you have one - I used that the first time I did my one. I think you also have to remove the plastic piece of trim that is bolted in front of the sump guard. I also removed one of the plastic turbo pipes to gain access.

I have ordered one and will try it out on my next oil change.

For my first oil change, I used a 27mm socket with a 1/2 flexible arm to loosen mine from above. I was just able to slip it on as its not to much space in there. Then I used an adjustable wrench to unscrew it step by step. I only removed the metal undertray and nothing else. Its tight, but its easily doable to manouvre the filter down from below after unscrewing it as long as you don`t have big paws

The filter is an element type and in a plastic housing, you will need a 27mm spanner (if I remember correctly ) for the hex nut moulded on the end)

It is a pain, you can't use a socket as it hits the radiator shroud, took me quite a while to work out how to get in with the spanner, removed it working from above, spanner needs to be behind some of the hoses.
