It's made of plastic and a clamp around it may well shatter it. I'd imagine a new housing won't be cheap either. Try a 27mm socket and a universal joint and extension etc if you have one - I used that the first time I did my one. I think you also have to remove the plastic piece of trim that is bolted in front of the sump guard. I also removed one of the plastic turbo pipes to gain access.

The filter is an element type and in a plastic housing, you will need a 27mm spanner (if I remember correctly ) for the hex nut moulded on the end)
