Updates on a 2013 FL2 are installed through the USB port, DVD's finished when the MY13 model came out. Map is updated with a USB stick and an activation code is needed to unlock the map data.

Sorry, I don't know where the USB port is. I have an older model FL2 (still with DVD's). More info can be found here as well: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic28188.html |

The Meridian based HDD system can be updated either by disc or USB, USB is far quicker!

Never knew you could up-date with a DVD disc on MY13 I thought it was USB only. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

StuartC, that second picture is very misleading since you're the only person in the world with an FL2 and a connect and view USB socket |

I wonder if the discs are cheaper than the silly priced USB sticks. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Haha.....if it wasn't for a "stupid" LR SW phark-up I'd be the only Fl2 with InControl Apps, soon though😜 On the positive side I can charge phone and stream from USB at the same time currently.... I think it's more to do with the body responsible for mapping information in each region which ultimately dictates price and whether either /or are available. AU/NZ we had a choice but disc was 2015 edition and USB was 2016 edition, current! The availability of updates really seems to be in the dark ages for most in car systems. Forcing huge payments for updates on whatever media seems bonkers (but obviously makes them a load of dosh). I use a Garmin when out on the bike (yes a sat nav on a bicycle) and whenever I charge the device it checks the map version and tells me if a new one is available. It then gives the option of downloading the new version or not. Updates takes about 2.5 - 3 hours and my version covers the whole of UK & Europe. Total cost? Just the time to download as all updates are free for life. Now why can car makers not do something similar? I know some aftermarket systems get free updates but built in systems seem to all rely on not too trivial payments which are made available once in a blue moon. It's quite simple actually......as I said the maps are not done by the car or in car technology manufacturer so you/we, the customer have to pay for the updates and I'm sure LR/Bosch etc put their margin on top. There is also specific data embedded in LR map data and hence different mapping data will not work.

The Gen 2.1 Navigation is from DENSO and will have a cross over in to Toyota and Lexus some where.
