A fault I'd say. I have a tablet permanently plugged in to the cig lighter and it charges just fine as soon as ignition comes on. |

Funny you should post this. I had the same problem with the wife's phone recently. She plugged her phone in to charge it up, half hour later still showing 5% removed it and plug it back in and it started charging. Never give it a second thought, just thought she not plugged it in right. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Are you using pukka USB adapters in your lighter socket? Some use the cheapo adapters sold with "vapers " I don't think they are that reliable. Make sure you have the proper adapter.

del1979 - I might see what Land Rover say about the issue then if you think it is a fault.

If there aren't a certain voltage levels on the D+ and D- wires on the cable, the phone will only draw up to 0.5 Amps from that charger, thinking that it's a normal USB port. That is the normal maximum current that a normal USB port can supply. But that current, on some cases is not enough to sustain the phone AND to charge it.

The cigarette charger I have is 2.1 Amps dual port. That is more than enough to charge an iPhone 6. Product listed here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B1H...&psc=1

As Dom says re-plugging the phone after ignition on solves the issue, and that he's tried various phones etc, I've assumed that he isn't actually using the phone at the time of testing the charge, and that he's realised that you can see if the phone recognises a charge input from the "Battery" screen, or alternative app such as Ampere.

The phone is not being used for anything. Just sat in the centre cubby box trying to charge if I haven't unplugged and plugged back in the cable first. I will try out an app to see what charge is going to the phone before and after I plug the cable in again. |

Does the phone charge from the USB in the cubby hole? Or doesn't the XS have that? MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

My iPod Classic charges fine from that USB media port and never gets removed. |

Alright, well, all I can say is that my cig lighter sockets come on and work whenever and as soon as I unlock the car. I know this because I've just been out to check. I run an extra bank of cig lighter sockets from the front one in the cubby hole and it's lit up as soon as I press the unlock button on the fob. And goes off as soon as I press lock. Yeah my cigarette lighter also lights up when you unlock the car so there is definitely power there and the phone would even acknowledge it was on power when plugged in without removing the cable first. It just doesn't increase the phones battery charge bizarrely. |
