A year into the ownership of my 60 plate HSE.e with no running issues I feel my luck is running out. We traveled from Essex up to York at the weekend. Yesterday I noticed a strange sound best described as (forgive the description) a wub wub wub sound-like a low base drone. At first I thought tyres but I am not so sure, It happens freewheeling as well as under power and above 30 general road noise drowns it out. All I can say is its an unwelcome gift from Yorkshire!

Any suggestions on what it could be?

On a clear and empty road, if you swerve the car left and right, does the sound change? If so, it will be a wheel bearing. Swerve to the right and if the noise dissapears, it's the right side bearing (as you are taking the load off the right side and loading the left side). The opposite applies for the other side.

If that makes no difference, it sounds like it may be the axle/diff. Only real way is to get a technician (preferably LR experienced) to road test it. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
