Yes... it’s clearly a fault in the unit...it’s almost as if a memory battery has failed on a circuit board somewhere...

I have been in touch with my local LR garage and he has sent me a JLR document - LTB00642v3 - Navigation System Defaults To A Regional Location _ TOPIx
Trouble is i can't seem to load the link.
Anyway the upshot is that i have the permanent issue and the repairs to the sat nav would cost £1178+vat for remanufactured unit or £1882 + vat for new unit. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

I think the Tom Tom is definitely the way to go.
I have tried to copy & past the document below:-

SITUATION:
A customer may express a concern that the navigation system reverts to a default location
for their region. There are 2 failure modes, either intermittent or permanent as described
below.
• Intermittent
1. After starting the vehicle, the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is
played.
2. On entering the Navigation after start-up, the vehicle icon shows itself in the region
default, for example Belgium. Once GPS signal is acquired the vehicle icon jumps back to
the actual location and the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is played.
3. All other features of the Navigation system work normally.

• Permanent

hardware is fitted to the vehicle select the "Part Information" icon on the Vehicle
Statement Of Health (VSOH) on SDD.
1. After starting the vehicle, the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is

2. On entering the Navigation after start-up, the vehicle icon shows itself in the region
default, for example Belgium. Once GPS signal is acquired the vehicle icon jumps back to
the actual location and the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is played.
In addition
After starting the vehicle:
-Previous Destination list is unavailable (all items are deleted, button is greyed out).
-In EU, Destination entry by Postcode is unavailable (button is greyed out) .
-Search area changes to region default, example Belgium.
-Current route is removed (deleted) in next ignition cycle.
This version has been created to update the Parts section.
CAUSE:
A software issue or hard fault with the IAM.
Suggested Customer Concern Code - A59.
NOTE:
You must carry out the instruction to download the latest software first, under no
circumstance must a module be ordered or replaced until it has been confirmed that
the software update has not resolved the issue and all of the symptoms for module
replacement are confirmed.

I don't know how old your Freelander is, but if it's less than 6 years old, JLR have an obligation to repair the unit, even outside of their 3 year warranty (which, laughably, excludes infotainment systems). The Consumer Rights Act 2015 states very clearly that goods must be of satisfactory quality, which clearly yours isn't. Forget the 3 year factory warranty, the very fact that you are in possession of an internal document acknowledging an inherent known fault would be the golden ticket to getting it repaired at their expense.

I would suggest that you ask your dealer to escalate this to JLR, and remind him/them that you have evidence that supports your stance. If they still refuse to help, and I was left in your position, then I would be seeking redress through the small claims court.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Alaska White

Evening all,

I read the latter part of this thread with interest as I have the default to Belgium / forget where home is issue.

Having had a sniff around the diagnostics menu I got the error code 0xC5. I don't know if that means its a software or hardware glitch? I don't fancy paying £1800+ for a replacement head unit. Can anyone advise? Is it terminal and I'll just have to live with resetting the map to UK any time I'm navigating or will a quick (and hopefully cheap) visit to my local JLR dealer sort it out painlessly?

The issue is not with HERE (the software producer) but with JLR who will not sanction or pay for further upgrades to the Freelander mapping software.

Some sellers have discovered that the DVD software for JLR vehicles is the same as that used by Subaru, who are supporting the owners of older Subaru vehicles, and are able to create updates, but officially JLR have abandoned all their older vehicles which means all Freelanders and all early Evokes and Disco Sports.

That is very new - the data is still as of Q3, 19 but that is a lot better than the previous version.

My comment about JLR relates to the earlier DVD based system which JLR have not sanctioned for 6 years or so. MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black Gone

Given that we'll be staying a lot closer to home the next few years Big Cry think I'll leave the update for now. If I can't navigate the A and B roads of the UK with what I have i'd be safer staying at home anyway Laughing

Same here at present, not driving more than a few miles a week, so no need for it yet.
